Sailing Camp & Junior Commodore's cup - 2005

Optimist training Topper training
Racing group This year's sailing camp was as good as ever. There were three groups out on the water most days. The beginners group sailed Toppers and worked towards a level of basic competance. The intermediate group sailed their Optimists and worked to improve their sailing skills. The racing group sailed a whole range of boats, including Enterprises, Toppers, RS200s and Lasers, and concentrated on racing skills.

The wind changed from the sublime to the ridiculous through the course of the week. On some days the loch was a virtual mirror and the groups were confined to theory lessons on shore. On other days, notably the Wednesday, the wind was very exciting and only the racing group were able to get on the water to have a tremendous time with their Toppers.

At the end of the week all of the junior sailors had certainly developed their skills and had thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

In addition to the sailing, there was fabulous food throughout the day and there were numerous evening activities. Everybody enjoyed the story boards, the quiz, the film night and making model boats ... although the Commodore provided an unexpected distraction during the final of the model boat sailing!!

Sailing camp ran from Monday to Friday. On Saturday the Junior Commodore's Cup was held. The Junior Commodore's Cup is a handicap race with heats for each class held in the morning, and the winners of these heats going through to a final race. Although there was very little wind throughout the day, everybody sailed well during both the heats in the morning and in the final in the afternoon. The Commodore's Cup was awarded to Rachel Heaton who sailed her Enterprise Dinghy to first place in the handicap race.
